New Baby Savings at Consignment Sales

In our experience the best place by far to find new baby savings and low-priced baby supplies, baby clothes, kid clothes, furniture, toys, videos, music CDs, books, and all kinds of kid equipment is at consignment sales.  These are different than consignment stores and we’ll explain how.  New Baby Cards

A consignment store is a company, usually located in a retail shopping center, that is open most of the year on a regular schedule.  They take in used items and display them in the store for sale.  When the item sells, they keep a cut of the profit and pay the rest to the person who brought the item in.  They typically have nice clothing items, but the selection is usually limited.  And they have to add more to the cost of each item to pay their operating expenses like rent and electricity, so the prices go up and your new baby savings are limited.

A consignment sale is generally a seasonal event which is held once or twice per year by a civic group like a church or a twins club.  The sale will be held in a big location like a church gymnasium, and will last 2 or 3 days.  New baby savings are abundant at these events.

The items that are being sold are brought in by the members of the group.  And because in most cases the original sellers actually work as volunteers at the event the prices at these sales are almost always lower than at consignment stores.

Depending on the size of the organization, the variety of new baby savings items available at a sale can be enormous.  We’ve been to one that took up a full size gymnasium plus a very large dining hall and 3 other rooms in a large church.  Having all of this inventory in one place is much more convenient than driving from garage sale to garage sale rifling through people’s junk.  And it’s way more stuff than you will find at a consignment store.

Since kids outgrow clothes, toys, and furniture so quickly, they usually haven’t had a chance to put much wear-and-tear on the items.  So you can purchase items that are almost as good as new for about 60% to 90% off of the retail price. BIG NEW BABY SAVINGS!

For example - we bought two ExerSaucers (Evenflo ExerSaucer 3-in-1 Pond) in excellent condition for $15 each.  They retail at $99.  Then when our kids outgrew them, we sold them at another consignment sale for $12 each!  So it was almost like renting them for a year at a cost of $3 each.  We also bought the entire annual wardrobe for our preschool boy and girl for about $150 TOTAL.  Again, we were able to sell the clothes (which were still in great shape) at another sale when they outgrew them.
